I use the pencil while deliberately playing down the line. It does not interest me; what interests me are the grey surfaces. Without effects, without erasing or smudging, establishing a constant exchange between fingers, eyes, head, and heart. And time. Deliberately, time has been a central element: achieving these surfaces requires slowness, not haste. This slow process makes it possible to establish a warm, sensual relationship with the drawing, to feel the touch of the pencil on the paper.
